ObstetriX
NSW ObstetriX Consortium
Maternity Care Solution for NSW Health
This consortium was formed within the NSW Health department to commission, deploy and manage the ObstetriX Maternity Care system, developed by Meridian. The Consortium includes members from all the hospitals in NSW that have implemented the ObstetriX information management system. Each hospital or Area Health Service contributes an annual fee and is represented at the regular meetings which decide on issues such as system enhancements or modifications. Generally these enhancements are designed, built and implemented with only supervisory input from Meridian, however for major enhancements or system changes the Consortium will commission Meridian. This work is delivered under a service level agreement.
The project to build and implement ObstetriX began in 2003, with first implementation at Nepean Hospital in May 2004. Since then most other NSW hospitals with birthing units have followed suit.
The design and implementation process is similar to that of the Mater project, however the workshopping, and model build were, necessarily of longer duration, as ObstetriX was the forerunner of the archetype model based technology provided by Meridian's intelligent data management engine (IDME).
ObstetriX functionality is described in Maternity and Perinatal Care Solutions
NSW users of ObstetriX access the system in a number of ways, via Citrix clients, thin clients and Web interfaces.
NSW Health is the ultimate owner of ObstetriX and has staffing numbers into the tens of thousands. ObstetriX users would number in the thousands.
Obstetrix is based on SQL Server technology.
